Valve has reported on a wave of blocking before the launch of the “Coldplay” event in Dota 2. The developers blocked 65,594 accounts for smurfing, and penalized high-ranked players for abusing bugs and other violations of fair competition.
The company thanked all gamers who sent fair complaints about other players throughout the year. Valve also noted that the community helps make Dota 2 better.
<Last holiday, Skeleton Frost nearly broke his banhammer while blocking offenders. For a whole year after that, the spirit of Cold Frost has been tempering his tool, occasionally testing it on Smurfs and other miscreants, and now the banhammer is ready to taste the blood of those who misbehaved.
Usually we do blocking and punishments in secret, but the cold wave of bans has become a sort of New Year's tradition. So this holiday season will start with more fair, friendly and interesting games for all of us, where you won't get 65,594 smurf accounts blocked this week.
The hammer also went out to the impressive number of high ranked players who were willing to humiliate others, overuse bugs, participate in fake matches or otherwise strike at the heart of Dota and its competitive spirit.
As always, we want to thank everyone who has sent in at least one complaint over the course of this year. Every bit of information helps us identify those who are only ruining the game and take action against them. All of you help to make Dota better.>
